San Jose Family Fun

The choices for fun are endless when visiting San Jose. Some 300 days of sunshine means the great outdoors is almost always available. Here are some of the family fun activities.

Northern California's most thrilling theme park is Paramount's Great America. The park has more than 50 rides, roller coasters, and attractions. The 100-acre park is open March through October.

For summer fun, try Raging Waters, Northern California's largest waterpark. Kids will be water logged after spending the day at this 23-acre park.

Family fun at Bonfante Gardens includes over forty rides, majestic gardens, and educational exhibits. The park is open from April through October.

Kids from ages 2-10 would love a visit to Happy Hollow Park and Zoo. An animal petting area, rides, and puppet shows means fun for an entire day.

Summertime brings a garden's delight at the downtown Farmers Market. Soak in the long summer nights listening to the free summer concerts offered by Music in the Park.

The themed galleries of The Tech Museum of Innovation, "The Tech" as it's known, provides insight into San Jose's famous industry – high technology. The Tech also features an IMAX Dome Theater, Northern California's only domed IMAX screen.

Bold colors and an unusual exterior surround the Children's Discovery Museum and if viewing 3,000-year-old mummies sounds intriguing, then you will want to visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.

The Winchester Mystery House, a 160-room Victorian mansion, is one of the oldest and most noted of haunted houses in California. It is filled with such oddities as stairs that lead to the ceiling, doors that open into walls and filled with legends of ghosts and spirits.

The San Jose History Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of San Jose. Visit the 14-acre site of History Park and view landmarks that highlight periods of Santa Clara Valley's past. You can also walk through history by visiting the restored Peralta Adobe and Fallon House in San Pedro Square.

St. Joseph Cathedral, located in the heart of the downtown, is a "work of art", designed in the form of a Greek cross, which provides perfect geometry and a floor plan that accommodates centrality for worship and performances.

You will find tranquility and peacefulness at the transformed six-acre site of the Chinese Cultural Gardens. If sailing, boating, fishing, rollerblading or jogging sound like the perfect day trip, 50 acres of open space await you at Lake Cunningham Park.

Tee off any time of year at San Jose's top-flight golf courses. If cycling or hiking is your thing, you can traverse the many miles of off-road and on-road trails in the area.

San Jose has the hottest traveling Broadway shows, opera, symphony, ballet, and ethnic artists perform nightly, all within walking distance of motels, four star brand hotels or quaint boutiques.
