Go to Nevada and you can spend the night in an Aladdin's cave, in a pyramid, in Venice, in Casablanca or overlooking breathtaking Lake Tahoe, or spend a night in a ghost town .... it's part of the casino glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, Reno or Laughlin and the tranquility of Lake Tahoe; but visitors can also enjoy the history of the Old West, scenic and historic recreation areas, or go golfing, hiking, biking, climbing, and enjoying watersports. A city renowned for its entertainment attractions, Las Vegas offers probably the most unique variety of amusements and leisurely distractions in the world. Boasting more neon lights than any other city, Las Vegas is home to 18 of the largest hotels in the country. Nevada's capital, Carson City, has its rustic beginnings as a frontier town and now shines bright with history, museums and events. Points of interest at Carson City include the native sandstone State Capitol, the Nevada State Museum and visitors can travel the blue-line Kit Carson Trail along the downtown sidewalks. Although Reno is known for its Nevada-style gaming, the kids can find plenty of things to do while the parents try to win cash and prizes. Apart from the hotel-casinos of Nevada’s original gambling and divorce capital, visitors to Reno can also discover the automobile’s historic role at the National Automobile Museum. NEVADA HOTELS ATTRACTIONS Baker Five miles east of Great Basin National Park, home of ancient bristlecone pines. Lehman Caves offers displays of stalactites and stalagmites. Battle Mountain History buffs enjoy a stop at the Trail of the 49ers Interpretive Center commemorating the pioneers who traveled the Gold Rush Trail. BATTLE MOUNTAIN HOTELS Beatty Gateway to the eerie badlands of Death Valley National Park and a few miles east of Rhyolite, one of the most photographed ghost towns in the West. Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park Berlin is a remnant of an early mining camp and the park includes an enclosed archaeological dig site of the fossil remains of gigantic fish-like reptiles. Bonnie Springs 1880s mining town with a taste of the Old West at Bonnie Springs Old Nevada. Boulder City This is the gateway to Hoover Dam. Visitors can travel the blue-line Kit Carson Trail along the downtown sidewalks for a 2.5-mile walking tour of over 60 points of interest including the historic U.S. Mint and 24 "Talking Houses", and Sharkey's Memorabilia Collection at Sharkey's Casino, and Gardnerville jammed with a unique collection of Western art, boxing memorabilia, circus items and saddle. CARSON CITY HOTELS Elko A magnet for Western American folk art. Exhibits at the Northeastern Nevada Museum include mastodon, ranching, mining, wildlife, fossils, firearms, local Basque history and Native American baskets; and contemporary folk art and cowboy gear at the Western Folklife Center. ELKO HOTELS Ely A former copper-mining town. The East Ely Railroad Depot Museum preserves the mining and transportation heritage of Eastern Nevada. The Nevada Northern Railway Museum is a major collection of historic rolling stock. The White Pine Public Museum exhibits reflect the mining and railroading lifestyles of the early settlers and includes the Hesselgesser collection of over 660 dolls. Nearby at the Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Site are six 30-foot tall kilns that provided charcoal for the smelter at the Ward mining camp. ELY HOTELS Eureka A well preserved 19th-century mining town. EUREKA HOTELS Fallon Known for its cantaloupes and fighter planes, Fallon is home to the U.S. Navy’s Top Gun flight school and the Churchill County Museum and Archives where guides take visitors through the Hidden Cave on a quarter-mile, uphill trail to the ancient storage site for local Native Americans; Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge provides a temporary home in the desert to hundreds of species of migratory birds; the Top Gun Speedway is a drag racing facility. FALLON HOTELS Fernley The Wigwam Native American Museum here features arrowheads, stone tools, baskets, beadwork, Kachina dolls and original Western art. FERNLY HOTELS Hawthorne Home to a picturesque golf course, and to Mineral County Historical Museum. HAWTHORNE HOTELS Henderson Just 7 miles from the Las Vegas Strip and a mile from beautiful Lake Mead , Henderson is home to the Clark County Heritage Museum and Ron Lee's World of Clowns where clown figurines are made along with figurines of Disney and Warner Bros. characters. HENDERSON HOTELS Lake Tahoe In addition to Lake Tahoe's renowned summer and wintertime recreation, there is a plethora of history, family fun and 24-hour entertainment to enjoy year-round. The Heavenly Aerial Tram takes visitors on a five-minute tram ride to an elevation of 8,250 feet for spectacular views of Lake Tahoe, plus hiking and interpretive walks. Lake Tahoe's Zephyr Cove Resort serves as home port to the M.S. Dixie II Paddlewheeler, and the Tahoe Rim Trail is a 150-mile system of hiking and equestrian trails around the Lake Tahoe ridgetops. Lake Tahoe boasts the largest concentration of ski areas in North America. Vegas offers shoppers an array of options. At the Fremont Street Experience the canopy comes alive every evening with senses-pounding light and sound shows that add to the excitement of a place often known as Glitter Gulch. In The Fountain Show in the Forum Shops at Caesars Roman statues come to life with special lighting effects. The city's museums range from the archeological through Guinness World of Records Museum, Madame Tussaud's Celebrity Encounter, to the memorabilia of the legendary entertainer at the Liberace Museum. There are five Cowboy Trail Rides and as befits its title "Entertainment Capital of the World", Las Vegas has a legion of entertainments like the Magic and Movie Hall of Fame at O'Sheas Hilton Casino, the outdoor entertainment complex MGM Grand Theme Park, an outerspace shuttlecraft ride at Las Vegas Hilton’s Star Trek: The Experience, the Stratosphere Tower, an observation tower with two thrill rides 100 storeys high, the bathing Treasures of Mandalay Bay, and theme parks like Wet 'n Wild and Gameworks. Lovelock At the center of Lovelock is one of the states architectural oddities, the Pershing County Courthouse, a unique, oval building believed to be the only round courthouse in the country. Mesquite A resort town with the interesting Desert Valley Museum. MESQUITE HOTELS Pahrump Home to the Pahrump Valley Vineyards where visitors stop for a tasting. PAHRUMP HOTELS Rachel A small town on State Route 375, Nevadas Extraterrestrial Highway, which serves as headquarters for UFO hunters and, of course, alien-related souvenirs. RENO HOTELS Sparks Downtown Sparks is the location of Victorian Square where the facades of the buildings, amphitheater and bandstand gives old fashioned ambiance and charm to the nearby Sparks casinos and which hosts unique special events including Best in the West Rib Cook-off, Hot August Nights and festivals. Kids of all ages love Sparks' Wild Island Family Recreation Center. Other attractions include the Sparks Heritage Foundation & Museum and the Sparks Marina. SPARKS HOTELS Tonopah Famed for its silver mining and visitors can learn about the regions mining history at the 70-acre Tonopah Mining Park and the Central Nevada Museum. TONOPAH HOTELS Virginia City Historic and photogenic 19th-century Virginia is the heart of the Comstock mining district and with its wooden sidewalks and falsefront saloons, restaurants and businesses remains a major attraction. The Piper's Opera House, listed by the League of Historic Theaters, was built in the 1880s. Other attractions include the Comstock Firemen's Museum, and the Nevada Gambling Museum. Winnemucca Located near the well-preserved ruins of several nearly-abandoned Nevada mining camps. WINNEMUCCA HOTELS Yerington A picturesque rural town in the heart of the Mason Valley, and home to Lyon County Museum which depicts the history of two valleys over the last 130 years.
