 In the 1920s, a reporter for National Geographic visited Maryland and dubbed the state “America in Miniature.” It sum up Maryland quite nicely. Other attractions include the Babe Ruth Museum, the Baltimore Maritime Museum, and the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The heart of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Harborplace & The Gallery, has a mix of shops, restaurants and entertainment. There are over 140 thoroughbred horse farms located throughout the rolling countryside of Baltimore County. Nearby at Ellicott City in Howard County the history of the men and women who built the railroad can be found at B&O Railroad Station Museum.  Cambridge The 1684 port town and county seat of Dorchester County, Cambridge has many historic homes, buildings and museums including The Brannock Maritime Museum. The Underground Railroad conductor, Harriet Tubman, is celebrated at The Underground Railroad: Harriet Tubman Museum. CAMBRIDGE HOTELS Calvert Cliffs Here in Calvert County prehistoric sharks' teeth and other fossils are found along the shoreline. Nearby, in Solomons, examples of the prehistoric creatures can be found at the Calvert Marine Museum. Centreville The county seat of Queen Anne's County, Centreville’s county courthouse is the oldest 18th-century courthouse still in use in Maryland. Chesapeake Beach On Chesapeake Bay, Chesapeake Beach has a beach water park, and a railway museum. CHESAPEAK BEACH HOTELS Chesapeake City In the heart of Cecil County, known for its horse farms, historic churches and taverns, and miles of waterways, Chesapeake City is home to the C&D Canal Museum. Chestertown The county seat of Kent County is famous for the historic homes lining the waterfront, and for the wildlife in the nearby Chesapeake Farms refuge. CHESTERTOWN HOTELS Crisfield Located in Somerset County, Crisfield is known as "The Crab Capital of the World". Colton's Point Here in St. Marys County in Southern Maryland visitors, by taking a short boat trip to the St. Clement's Island-Potomac River Museum, can learn about the achievements of the English settlers who came to Maryland. Cumberland Located in Allegany County in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad takes visitors on a scenic 1916 steam locomotive journey. Just west of Cumberland at Frostburg the Thrasher Carriage Museum has a collection of horse drawn vehicles. The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park is near Cumberland on the Potomac River. CUMBERLAND HOTELS Easton The county seat of Talbot County, Easton is home to the Third Haven Meeting House, probably the oldest church building in the country. To the west at St. Michaels the history of the Bay and of the County is featured at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. EASTON HOTELS Most people who visit Easton also go to Oxford, dating back to 1683, the perfect setting for a walk along the beach, a boating excursion, and Tilghman Island with great restaurants, skipjack cruises, waterside accommodations, and the biggest one-marina charter fleet in Maryland. Frederick Located in Frederick County, one of Fredericks main attractions is the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. The Presidential retreat, Camp David is nearby in Catoctin Mountain Park at Thurmont. FREDERICK HOTELS Grantsville This is the gateway to Garrett County South of Granstville is Deep Creek Lake which welcomes boaters and water skiers. GRANTSVILLE HOTELS Hagerstown Located in Washington County in Western Maryland Hagerstown was at the Crossroads of the Civil War. It has many railway attractions including the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum. HAGERSTOWN HOTELS South of Hagerstown is The Antietam National Battlefield, Civil War site of the bloodiest single-day battle in American history. West of Hagerstown, the Fort Frederick State Park is the restored site of Maryland's frontier defense during the French and Indian War. Havre de Grace Located in Harford County in Central Maryland, the town has a long maritime history as the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum shows. The Decoy Museum houses a collection of working and decorative Chesapeake Bay decoys. HAVRE DE GRACE HOTELS Ocean City A year-round resort on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Ocean City has 10 miles of beaches, a boardwalk, and amusement parks like Jolly Roger, Frontier Town and Planet Maze and Laser Storm. Assateague Island National Seashore, a 37-mile long barrier island, is south of Ocean City. St. Mary’s City The state’s original 17th-century capital is now called Historic St. Mary’s City and is preserved as a living history museum. South of St. Mary’s is Point Lookout State Park where the mouth of the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay Salisbury The largest city on the Eastern Shore, and country seat of Wicomico County, Salisbury’s attractions include the Wicomico Heritage Center and the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art. SALISBURY HOTELS Silver Spring In Montgomery County, one of DC Washington’s Maryland ?bedroom? communities, the National Capital Trolley Museum at Silver Spring has antique streetcars from the U.S. and Europe. Visitors can ride a mule-drawn canal boat along the 19th century C&O Canal. SILVER SPRING HOTELS Snow Hill Worcester’s county seat, Snow Hill’s attractions include the Julia A. Purnell Museum, and the nearby Pocomoke River State Park. Waldorf Located in Charles County in Southern Maryland, Waldorf is home to the Maryland Indian Cultural Center. WALDORF HOTELS Westminster Located in Central Maryland, the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster explores the agricultural history of Carroll County with its 1800s farmhouse and the Union Mills Homestead and Grist Mill.
