In the 1920s, a reporter for National Geographic visited Maryland and dubbed the state “America in Miniature.” It sum up Maryland quite nicely. It has it all from mountains to seashores and everything is within about a 3-hour drive of Maryland's biggest city, Baltimore. Maryland is the perfect place for a family vacation: acclaimed zoos and aquariums, a hiking adventure in a state park, beaches, a family sailing course on the Chesapeake Bay, or a chance to step back in time at any of its many historic attractions: colorful bugle “trailblazer” signs of Maryland’s Civil War Trails. You can go fishing for blue marlin, brook trout, smallmouth bass or striped bass. There are picturesque mountains perfect for hiking and white-water rafting, lakes for skiers and tubers. And with more than 60,000 hotel and motel rooms there is no shortage of accommodation. As home to both Maryland’s capital, Annapolis, and to its most populated city, Baltimore, the Central Maryland region boasts an unbeatable combination of fun and culture. Within minutes’ drive of the big-city hustle and bustle, you’ll find serene pastures that are home to Maryland’s thoroughbred horses, old mills and farms, and waterside villages that are havens for boaters and history buffs alike. Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is rich with American and maritime history. Annapolis, America’s Sailing Capital, is home to the US Naval Academy with its 4,000-strong Brigade of Midshipmen. Maryland’s capital city boasts more 18th-century buildings than anywhere else in the USA, including the homes of all four Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence. There are more than 2,500 motel and hotel rooms. Maryland is a child-friendly state and the perfect place for a family vacation. A logical choice is a trip to Baltimore, where the family can explore the acclaimed National Aquarium in Baltimore, visit the nation’s top-rated children’s zoo at The Baltimore Zoo or work at a pretend cannery at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
