| With its two big rivers, its lush lakefront parks, rolling hills and quaint villages, visitors can explore a wide array of adventures in Indiana, from arts and culture, sports and motor racing, agritourism, history and heritage, outdoor recreation, scenic getaways, family fun, shopping and some 470 golf courses spread across Indiana. There are even beaches .... Indiana borders Lake Michigan so it can boast of 24 miles of beaches. Northern Indiana is home to the second largest population of Amish in the nation. In every corner of Amish Country visitors will find engaging cities, towns and villages for their vacations and travel. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is home to three of the "Greatest Spectacles" in racing: the Indianapolis 500 (held every May), the US Grand Prix in June, the only Formula One race held in America, and the Brickyard 400 races (every August). At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum visitors will find a collection of racing, classic and antique passenger cars celebrating Indianapolis's motor-racing history. Indianapolis is also home to the largest children's museum in the world, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. There are some 167 motels and hotels in Indianapolis and another 80 or so in the region. Seven downtown hotels with more than 2,800 rooms are connected via skywalk to the Indiana Convention Center. Affordable, family-focused hotels are abundant and located only a short distance from Indianapolis attractions. INDIANA HOTELS ATTRACTIONS Amish Country In every corner of Northern Indiana Amish Country visitors will find engaging cities, towns and villages. At a restored factory in Goshen, the county seat along the Elkhart River, craftsmen create original hardwood furniture, quilt designs, and pottery. The Amish culture and lifestyle can be experienced in the little town of Nappanee, the center of one of the largest Old Order Amish settlements in the United States. GOSHEN HOTELS The yearly Jazz Festival in Elkhart brings together the nation's top jazz names every June, and in the heart of the third largest Amish settlement in the United States lies Shipshewana, a little village where the Menno-Hof Visitors Center houses an in-depth, multi-media presentation of the Amish and Mennonite cultures. Small downtown shops in Middlebury are reminiscent of a quaint old-fashioned village. Brown County In addition to its quaint shops and art galleries, Brown County is home to several other attractions like Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Hall of Fame & Country Star Museum. Visitors can tour the county's sites by horse-drawn carriage or steam engine train. Columbus is known nationally for its architecture that can be enjoyed on the daily City Tours offered by the Columbus Area Visitors Center. Recently named by Nick Jr. Magazine as being one of “Ten Most Playful Towns in America”, other attractions include Mill Race Park, the Jolie Crider Skate Park, Hamilton Center Ice Arena, Donner Park and Pool, and Kidscommons, an interactive kid’s museum. COLUMBUS HOTELS Evansville The Riverside Historic District is the fashionable neighborhood where wealthy 19th century businessmen built their mansions. Angel Mounds was inhabited by Mississippian Indians from 1100 -1450 AD. EVANSVILLE HOTELS Fishers Conner Prairie along the White River is an open-air living history museum which features a modern Museum Center and four historic areas: the 1836 village of Prairietown, the 1823 William and Elizabeth Conner Home, and the Lenape Camp & McKinnen's Trading Post. FISHERS HOTELS Fort Wayne Visitors can immerse themselves in Lincoln memorabilia at The Lincoln Museum, take a journey in an Indonesia Rainforest at the Children's Zoo, or view the contemporary artists at the Museum of Art. FORT WAYNE HOTELS Other attractions include Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, classic cars in art deco showrooms, the Black Pine Animal Park in Albion, home to animals world-wide, many of whom were rescued, rehabilitated, or have retired from show business, the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, and the Haunted Castle now in its 21st season. The Jack D. Diehm Wildlife Museum of Natural History has North American Wildlife mounted in realistic settings, the National Automobile and Truck Museum of the United States preserves post WWII automobiles, trucks and engines, the Old City Hall Historical Museum has three floors of Fort Wayne and Allen County history in the former city hall and jail, and Science Central is Indiana's center for science, mathematics, technology, and hands-on family fun. FORT WAYNE HOTELS Indianapolis, with a lovely River Promenade lined with stone tablets carved with renderings of famous buildings, is also home to the largest children's museum in the world, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis with the new $25 million permanent exhibit called Dinosphere. Other attractions include the Indiana State Museum, The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the Indianapolis Zoo/White River Gardens, the National Art Museum of Sport, and the NCAA Hall of Champions which has four presentation theaters of intercollegiate athletics. Just 20 minutes north of downtown Indianapolis, Broad Ripple Village Association offers unique shops, art galleries and dining. INDIANAPOLIS HOTELS Lafayette Visitors can trace their familys genealogical and historic path at the Alameda McCollough Library. Other attractions include self-guided tours of downtown architecture and historic neighborhoods, Fort Ouiatenon, a recreation of life at this 18th century French trading post, and Fowler House with exhibits of the area from prehistoric to recent times. Still more attractions include Horticulture Park with hiking trails, and the Museums at Prophetstown, which recreate the cultures and countryside of Native American and early Indiana farmers, the Tippecanoe Battlefield, and Wolf Park, an educational and research wildlife park. LAFAYETTE HOTELS Lawrenceburg Located on the river just 20 minutes west of Cincinnati, Lawrenceburg is known for its indoor/outdoor antiques and vintage collectibles. Red Wolf Sanctuary was originally intended to help prevent the extinction of the Red Wolf, but saves all animals, many abused or abandoned, which cannot be released into the wild. LAWRENCEBURG HOTELS Lincoln City The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is on this southern Indiana farm where young Abraham Lincoln spent 14 of the most formative years of his life. Muncie Home to the headquarters for model aviation, the National Model Aviation Museum has the largest collection of model aircraft in the United States. The Minnetrista Cultural Center & Oakhurst Gardens has exhibits on Indiana’s art and history. MUNCIE HOTELS South Bend/Mishawaka Famous for Notre Dame University, and the Studebaker National Museum, where visitors can experience 114 years of transportation history. At the Northern Indiana Center for History, visitors can hear tales of the people who shaped this region. Some of the area's most popular attractions are sport-related and outdoors, such as the College Football Hall of Fame and the East Race Waterway.
