"Shutters on the Beach" is the only luxury hotel in Los Angeles nestled right on the sandy beach. "Shutters on the Beach" houses 186 gracious rooms and 12 suites in a design that recalls the colorful architecture of the historic beach resorts and cottages characterisitic of the southern California coast during the 1920's and 1930's. The lobby boasts two large wood-burning fireplaces, intimate conversation areas and a large balcony overlooking the ocean. Guest rooms evoke a sense of comfortable luxury that one would experience in a grand yet unpretentious beach home. Each of our 198 guest rooms is luxurious and welcoming. Many offer panoramic Pacific coastline views. Sliding shutter doors open to the balmy ocean breeze. Tufted lounge chairs, large whirlpool bathtub, 27-inch television with video cassette player, private bar, and three, two-line telephones with dataport for fax or modem hook-up are just a few of the amenities. Each of the three Presidential Suites features full ocean views, a sumptuous large bathroom with an oversized whirlpool bathtub, a guest powder room, a full size living room with fireplace, and a dining table that seats six. The suite is accessorized with items one would find in a sophisticated beach house, such as binoculars, a stereo with a selection of CD's, and a fine selection of books and magazines.

"Shutters on the Beach" offers guests and local residents two restaurants, both in the warm, California style. "One Pico" is an 85 seat restaurant with magnificent windows on three sides affording one of the most panoramic restaurant experiences in Los Angeles. "Pedals" is a casual restaurant located on the Beach Promenade. With seating for 100 indoors and 50 on the outdoor patio, pedals is a high-energy restaurant featuring an expansive exhibition kitchen that evokes a sense of a truly California casual cafe with an Italian Trattoria feel. "Handlebar" is adjacent to Pedals and can accommodate up to 84 people either along its 40-foot long honed marble bar or at traditional bar stools along the windows that open over the adjoining bicycle path.

7,000 square feet of intimate meeting space includes the Grand Salon ballroom and three board rooms that open onto an outdoor terrace. The Grand Salon features a floor-to-ceiling wood burning fireplace and colorful, hand painted Trompe L'oeil murals depicting Santa Monica beach scenes of the 1930's. The Grand Salon can accommodate up to 220 people for a sit-down meal, 300 for a reception. Banquet and catering staff and full audio-visual services are on hand to ensure that business meetings are efficient and comfortable.

The health club features a workout room with state-of-the-art bally equipment. In addition, the health club features separate locker rooms for men and women, massage, and steam and dry sauna. A magnificent pool, deck and spa afford breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and beach activities. A full size swimming pool, outdoor grill jacuzzi, and plenty of chaise lounges and chairs allow for all-day sunning.

Entertainment and Activities

Beach Activity Center is open from Memorial Day up until Labor Day weekend, open 10am - 7pm daily. Guests can rent bicycles, beach chairs, boogie boards and toys for the kids, as well as purchase lunch boxes and snacks. Scheduled Activities may also include Volleyball, Sand Castle Building and yoga.
