Rio Sands Motel is an easy 2 minute stroll to Rio Del Mar Beach where you can play on 20 miles of uninterrupted sandy beach, fish or wander onto the wharf leading to the Palo Alto - a cement ship with a fascinating past. We are situated in a nice quiet residential area that is away from the hustle and bustle of city life but just minutes away from all that Santa Cruz, Capitola and Monterey have to offer. With your comfort in mind we have equipped all of our rooms with refrigerators and microwaves and in-room coffee. Choose from a Standard King room with either a patio or balcony, a Junior Suite with 2 queen beds and a double hide-a-bed in a sitting area with a second TV, or one of our apartment style suites with fully stocked kitchens. While at the Rio Sands start your day with our expanded Continental Breakfast with granola, hard boiled eggs, bagels, toast, muffins, breads, Danish, pastries, peaches, coffee, tea and orange juice. Play in the swimming pool, heated to 80 degrees all year or relax in the pool side Family Spa or the adults only Garden Spa or have a BBQ in our park like setting - perfect for a gathering of family and friends. Nearby you can go beach combing, fish, hike, bike, kayak, golf, shop, visit museums or wineries, just to name a few, and we are only 8 miles from the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and 35 miles from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Our 1300 square foot Banquet Room seats 80 for dining or 150 for assembly functions. Available with small cafe, large round or long rectangle banquet tables. The full size kitchen has electric stove and oven, microwave, and refrigerator. Separate wet bar also available. A gas burning fireplace provides a warm ambiance while relaxing on the accompanying sofas. Our banquet room is a great place to hold your wedding reception after getting married on the beach. Also a great place for your next business meeting, reception, holiday or birthday party, wedding, luncheon, reunion or anniversary.

Directions

Two short blocks from the Rio Del Mar beach parking lot on Aptos Beach Drive in Aptos. -- Directions -- Take Highway 1 to the Rio Del Mar Blvd exit. Follow Rio Del Mar approximately one mile toward the ocean. The street will end at the beach parking lot at the bottom of a steep hill and the beach will be on your left. Turn RIGHT and go two blocks, turn right again at our sign. Proceed to the office, which is located in the middle of the motel.
