Cruising the USA - more information for cruise ship passengers heaading for USA ports and cruise destinations

Resting your head in LA

LA's got beds. Lots of them. In fact, it's the third largest lodging market in the country. Yet it's more affordable than most other major US metropolitan areas. Wanna know more about lodging in LA? Read on.

Los Angeles County has more hotel rooms, 107,500, than all but two other metropolitan areas in the United States (Las Vegas and Orlando).

Downtown LA has more than 5,700 rooms within one mile of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Downtown LA has Los Angeles' largest hotel, the
Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, with 1,354 rooms. Downtown also has two other hotels in the Top 10: the Wilshire Grand, fifth overall with 900 rooms, and the Millennium Biltmore, 10th overall with 683 rooms.

Downtown is home to many significant cultural and historical buildings and facilities. Within walking distance or short cab or bus rides of each other are the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Japanese-American Museum, the Los Angeles Central Public Library, the Grand Central Market, the Broadway historic district, El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument (Olvera Street) and many more.
Explore San Francisco by BART

The clean, comfortable and economical trains of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system take visitors to the doorstep of many top San Francisco attractions.

To whet the BART-bound visitor’s appetite for adventure and entertainment, here is a sampling of things to do within walking distance of just two major BART stations.

Montgomery Street Station – Crocker Galleria Shopping Center; Maiden Lane with its impressive array of boutiques, cafes and beautifying options; Chinatown; the Cartoon Art Museum; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Yerba Buena Gardens; and the California Historical Society

Powell Street Station – The posh hotels, boutique inns, famous and innovative restaurants and the fine department stores and designer shops of Union Square are just a short walk from BART. So are the 68 specialty stores of the Westfield San Francisco Centre; theaters; the Sony Metreon urban entertainment complex; the California Academy of Sciences; the San Francisco Visitor Information Center; and the Moscone Center, the City’s convention center.
Music Fest in Chicago

With its rich musical background, Chicago is a city that loves to celebrate all things music. Its season of festivals centers around Chicago’s principal downtown park, Grant Park.

The largest annual blues festival in the world is the Chicago Blues Festival.

The Chicago Jazz Festival was originally created as a simple tribute to jazz legend Duke Ellington.

Soulful gospel music, one of the fastest growing musical genres in the US, can be experienced at the Chicago Gospel Festival.

The Grant Park Music Festival, featuring the award-winning Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus, is at its permanent home, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.

The Chicago Latin Music Festival celebrates Latin music from around the globe. Hear Grant Park shake to the sounds of meringue, salsa and ranchero.

Celebrating Chicago’s cultural diversity, the Chicago World Music Festival features traditional, contemporary and fusion music from around the world.

Experience bagpipers, storytellers and Celtic culture at the Chicago Celtic Fest.
